PRESCOTT, Ariz. A highway in northern Arizona is closed because of a rock landslide.

Yavapai County authorities said Monday that hazardous conditions remain on Senator Highway, which remains closed until the location is evaluated for safety.

They say motorists should avoid the area due to the icy, narrow road conditions.

Although much of the slide has been cleared, public works officials are concerned about a section of the rock face that appears to be separating from the hillside.

Senator Highway runs south from Prescott through the community of Groom Creek to Crown King.

The closure is located about 3 miles south of the section where the road turns to dirt.

Residents who live along Senator Highway south of the landslide can use Walker Road to drive north.
