BISBEE, Ariz. -- Authorities say a reward of up to $500 is being offered for information leading to an arrest in the illegal killing of a javelina in southern Arizona.

Arizona Game and Fish officials say the javelina was shot in the head on Christmas Day and then possibly dragged down a residential street south of Bisbee.

They say the javelina was found dead with an orange extension cord wrapped through its mouth east of the Naco Highway.

Javelinas look like boars and are classified as a big game species.

State Game and Fish officials say it's unlawful to injure or kill game animals except under certain conditions and it's unlawful to trap a javelina.

The reward announced Friday is being offered by the Game and Fish Department's Operation Game Thief program.
