PHOENIX — A motorcyclist is dead after a high-speed collision with a car in west Phoenix.

Phoenix police identify the victim as 62-year-old James Norbert Stoegbauer.

They say Stoegbauer was riding on 51st Avenue from Thunderbird Road about 1:30 p.m. Friday when he collided with a car that pulled out of a shopping center in front of his motorcycle.

Witnesses say the motorcycle was travelling at a high rate of speed and Stoegbauer wasn't wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Police say the 26-year-old driver of the car escaped injury along with his wife, who was a passenger.

Officers are investigating the cause of the crash, but say there's no sign of impairment.

So sad, motorcycles are so exhilarating..
and can be so fun, wind blowing over you, and the freedom. Our family had a great loss. Jan. 1929 my grandfather was killed ridding motorcycle, 2 weeks before his 9th child born. My father, age 6 witnessed this. Mother didn't allow children to talk about. Probably reasons my father had some 'mental issues.' Condolences to this family, and the other couple, who will have to deal with this death, pity.
