Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton said changes are needed to ensure the safety of children and all citizens.

"Now, is the right time to act," he said.

Stanton is one of four Arizona mayors that are members of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, which, according to the organization's website, is a coalition of about 700 mayors "committed to working with our fellow mayors to share best practices, develop innovative policies, and support legislation at the national, state, and local levels that will help law enforcement target illegal guns."

Stanton is also part of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, which sent an open letter to the president and Congress asking for more restrictive gun laws.

"We're asking for smart public policy, public policy that we know will reduce gun violence, hopefully reduce the number of deaths as a result of gun violence and we think it's the right direction for our country," said Stanton.

Some of the changes Stanton would like to see happen include stopping the sale of high capacity magazines, assault weapons and closing gun show loopholes.

    The red cost dems
Cuomo, in few short sentences, has begun laying the essential groundwork for the possible mass deportation of undesirable civilians to government "work" camps, re-education camps, and even death camps. After all, only disarmed Americans can be herded and shipped off in cattle cars to their uncertain fate. Cuomo statements are a more than warning shot across the bow of American liberty. They signal that the Democrats and the MSM have jettisoned any remaining loyalty to Constitutional freedoms and individual rights.

    The term "useful idiots"
No one likes to be called an idiot, but useful idiots who gave us four more years of Obama probably don't realize that he's using the Newtown massacre right now to manipulate them. He's playing them like a fiddle hoping to savage the Second Amendment to the Constitution and restrict gun ownership and use by sane, law-abiding citizens.

The current Supreme Court is open
to reasonable restrictions on gun ownership. They will agree that psycho killers' access to assault style weapons with high capacity magazines was not something the Founders had in mind. Reasonable and effective new restrictions will be enacted and survive any challenge.

    Choose your battles wisely Mayor
How is banning high capacity mags, or "assault weapons" more important than getting violent video games, media, tv banned from ruining the minds of our youth. No wonder why these kids snap. Look at the ages of all of these mass shootings. 17- mid twenties. Should firearms be sold to people with mental illnesses? NO- Should they be allowed to be kept in a house with someone who has a mental ilness living there? Heck NO

    Up hill battle
Taking away everyone's rights to a magazine that holds 20-30 rds, or an ar15 type rifle will only lead to another right being taken away after a shotgun is used in a killing, or a lever action style rifle...etc. So ban all you want and make the good guys turn everything over.Oh do you believe that the criminals will turn in their firearms or assault weapons. OF COURSE NOT! Look at the Cartels in Mexico. That will happen here as well. You will see gangs merge and expand, and crime increase exponentially when the citizens are disarmed.

    The supreme court squashed
Illinios and DC strict gun bans. Using common sense they along with any other sensible person knows gun laws do nothing to curb violence. Chicago and dc are great examples of that.

Micho it's become all to apparent you've lost this argument a long time ago with this issue. Now you're stubbornness is getting the best of you. Your anti American rants are embarrassing to say the least and your belief that the constitution along with the supreme court finds your ideology correct its laughable at best.

    another bobblehead commie.
Stanton is just another bobblehead commie. Anyone who thinks that criminals would obey gun laws has to be a really special kind of stupid. Fascist always want to disarm the public because an armed society is a free society. What kind of bizzaro world do you live in where you would support a leader who would disarm his people but arm the enemies of the people. It looks like things are going to get a lot worse and the useful idiots are just getting more stupid and arrogant.
