The end of the world has been cancelled in Willcox, Ariz.

Willcox Police Chief Jake Weaver sent out a press release that he cancelled the Mayan apocalypse today because of "prior scheduled events."

Weaver states in the release that, "After much consideration, the Mayan apocalypse has been cancelled due to conflicts with prior scheduled events. I apologize for any inconvenience this cancellation may have caused anyone who may have been looking forward to the end of the world, however we still have plans, and the apocalypse just didn't fit into our schedule. Feel free to continue living your lives, and, as always, let's be careful out there."

Weaver said people in Willcox just have different plans than the Mayans.

"It's kind of like when you move into a house," he said. "The prior occupants may have had some things there, or made plans for the future. Then they moved, relocated or left and we're the new occupants. Quite frankly, their prior arrangements just didn't jive with what we've got going on right now. So we took it upon ourselves to cancel the apocalypse."

People in Willcox are having fun with Weaver's order.

"A lot of people laughed about it, joked about it, got a little kick out of it," he said. "That's what we intended, and that's what we had hoped would happen. It was just to kind of make people smile and have a good time, and lighten up a little bit."

Weaver said "the end" had to be put on hold because Willcox residents are too busy getting ready for Christmas.

With so many yearning for the end
of the world, I find it hard to believe there aren't more suicides occurring regularly. I suppose it is part of the human condition to seek resolution, even if it means the end of our existence.

Want to believe what a bunch of primitive violent Mexican Indians predicted century's ago. They also practiced human sacrifice. Not a particularly bright group of people then or now.
