PHOENIX -- The National Weather Service said Tuesday the Valley is in for a soaking later this week.

In addition to the drop in temperatures -- overnight lows will be in the 40s by late week -- a storm could drop about a half-inch of rain by Friday morning and up to seven inches of snow in the high country.

"It's the first significant rain since the monsoon -- it's going to affect the whole Valley," said Marvin Percha, a Weather Service spokesman.

Percha added that a late-night thunderstorm Thursday is possible.
