PAYSON, Ariz. -- Authorities say a privately owned helicopter with three people aboard has crashed into Roosevelt Lake northeast of Phoenix.

Gila County Sheriff's officials say the craft went down around 3 p.m. Friday and was in 60 feet of water.

They say all three people were pulled from the helicopter by boaters in the lake, which is between Payson and Globe.

Sheriff's spokesman Tim Scott says two men and one woman were airlifted to Phoenix-area for evaluations and treatment.

The extent of their injuries wasn't immediately clear and Scott wouldn't release their names, ages or hometowns.

Authorities say the Robinson R44 was registered to an Alaskan company and it isn't immediately known why it went down.

Officials from the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board will be investigating the crash.
