Kelly Ann Wasko (Gilbert Police Department)

GILBERT, Ariz. -- A Gilbert woman is accused of fraudulently claiming she has cancer and getting thousands of dollars in donations.

Gilbert police say 41-year-old Kelly Ann Wasko is being held on a $25,000 bond. She's been booked into jail on five counts of fraudulent schemes and six counts of theft. She doesn't have a lawyer yet.

Police say Wasko claimed she desperately needed a bone marrow transplant which her insurance wouldn't cover.

Authorities say a Facebook page was created by a family friend to collect funds to assist Wasko with the supposed medical procedure.

More than $12,000 reportedly was donated including $1,000 from Wasko's adult daughter and $350 from a person with cancer.

Police say Wasko allegedly defrauded another victim out of $8,000 by claiming one of her children had died.
