The father of the girl suffering from leukemia who was taken out of a Phoenix hospital appeared on NBC's "Today" show to defend the family's actions.

The father, speaking from California, said the 11-year-old is in "good hands." She is said to be in Mexico with her mother, receiving treatment.

Emily was taken out of Phoenix Children's Hospital late Nov. 28 by her mother, who told a Spanish-language TV station she had no choice.
