MESA -- An Arizona high school principal is drawing fire for his unusual choice of punishment for two male students caught fighting — he forced them to hold hands in front of classmates.

KTVK-TV reports that Tim Richards, who is the principal at Westwood High School in Mesa, Ariz., recently ordered to two students to publicly hold hands for an hour or face suspension.

The boys reportedly got into a fight during gym class.

But the punishment didn't stay within the school's walls. A photo of the boys holding hands eventually made its way onto social media.

The Mesa Public School District says they don't support the punishment and will address the matter with the principal.

    Unusual?
The best form of punishment for fighting should be a form of friendship such as holding hands. The punishment fit the offense. Only in America (and in other sexually repressed countries) would two people holding hands be seen as something unusual or unnatural.

I say good choice made by the principal. Maybe they and others will think twice before they go around hitting one another.

    Good job!
Unlike a 3 day vacation, I mean "suspension", this might make the kids think twice next time. We used to have the same thing done in football and baseball if the coach saw 2 guys fighting. We never had a second fight on the teams.

    Good for them
Would they have preferred handcuffs? Anyone stop to ask the kids in question what they thought of this "punishment"?
