NEW YORK -- An Arizona tourist who snapped a wildly popular photo of a New York City policeman helping a homeless man says she feels a kinship for the officer.

Jennifer Foster of Florence appeared with Officer Larry DePrimo on the "Today" show Friday.

Said Foster, a police dispatcher: "We decided we're best friends."

DePrimo said he found the whole experience "surreal and extremely humbling." He said he just knew he had to help the man.

Foster took a photo of DePrimo giving new boots to the barefoot homeless man in Times Square on a cold night. It went viral after it was posted on the NYPD's Facebook page on Tuesday.

Foster said her father, a Phoenix police officer for 32 years, had once done something similar.

    What am I missing here?
Is it a really big deal for a human being to help another? Is it because a NY cop is rearly caught in the act of helping a homeless person? A quote from the article "her father, a Phoenix police officer, had once done something simular". Folks are out helping the homeless every day without going on the Today Show.

Another good deed parlayed into 15 minutes of fame. Maybe we should start a fund for the bus monitor...er...I mean police officer. ;)
