Arizona did not fare well in a recent survey conducted by 24/7 Wall St.

The survey, designed to ascertain the best and worst states in America, did not cast the Grand Canyon State in a good light: Arizona ranked 47 out of 50, nearly the worst.

The survey found that Arizona home values fell 35 percent, more than any other state except Nevada. Its unemployment rate is 9.5 percent, the 13th highest. It also said that Arizona's budget deficit was the third largest with 39 percent.

24/7 Wall St. reviewed data of financial health, standard of living and government services by state. They also looked at each state's debt, revenue and taxes among other criteria.

Factors like poor governance and extreme weather can affect how well a state is managed.

High ranking states have well-managed budgets, like North Dakota, which was ranked first. California was ranked last for the second year in a row.

Surprisingly it sits at the bottom
with the 4 other worst States which are controlled by Democrats. The top 5 best States are controlled by Republicans.

    Old data?
Clearly this is old data. Our unemployment rate is NOT 9.5% anymore and we do NOT have a budget deficit anymore (last fiscal year Arizona has a budget surplus- check the facts yourself). Jan Brewer has turned things around by cutting wasteful spending.

    AND JUST WHO
in the elitist NE determined this? We do what we have to, to survive with the laws that the federal government puts on us. They don't like us cause we fight for what we as a State want and not cow tow to Obummer. If you look at the most poorly run cities, states, etc. they are all run by liberal democrats. You run more negative articles from the AP than any other in AZ. So what is your point, KTAR. You bash but you don't help.

    Good Point, Patriot
Also, 4 of the 5 most troubled states happen to be among the top eight states with the most illegals. The worst state, California, has the most illegals. Go figure, and then thank Obama for the demonstration of things to come.To survey the budgets, unemployment and other such statistics of the states, and then to declare the result as an indication of administrative governance is hogwash. It is more about politics and the burdens thereof.

    Patriot makes a good point.
Why is Arizona, which has been dominated by Republican legislatures for decades, so much more consistently poorly run than other Republican dominated states? My guess is that our particular pack of Republican legislators are incompetent duds compared to the Republican legislators in the top five states. This is evident from the mounds of effort put into nonsensical legislation such as a state gun or efforts to pass birther bills, when there are much more serious matters to contend with.
