Foundation honors University of Arizona professor
TUCSON, Ariz. -- A University of Arizona professor of German studies is being honored as the state's professor of the year.
The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has bestowed that designation on Professor Albrecht Classen. It cited his proficiency in the classroom and positive relationships with students.
Classen, 56, said he was stunned when he received the foundation's letter, thinking it was nothing more than a polite notice saying he hadn't won.
He'd been several times previously but hadn't won.
The Arizona Daily Star reported that the annual honor often has gone to the university's chief rival, Arizona State University.
