Pima deputy fatally shoots man who pointed gun

TUCSON, Ariz. — A Pima County sheriff's spokesman says a deputy has fatally shot a 23-year-old man who pointed a handgun at the deputy.
Spokesman deputy Tom Peine (Py-NAH) says the deputy conducted a traffic stop on a sedan in north Tucson on Friday evening and both vehicles pulled into a business parking lot. The driver pulled out a gun and pointed it at the deputy as the two men were talking.
Peine says deputy Nicholas Norris then shot Vladimir Cardenas of Tucson in self-defense.
Cardenas was taken to a hospital but died.
Norris is an eight-year department veteran and was placed on routine administrative leave while the shooting is investigated.
Deputies found other weapons and a variety of drugs and paraphernalia in Cardenas' car. He was wanted on a misdemeanor warrant.
