Lockdown lifted at Tucson middle school

TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Pima County Sheriff's Department has lifted the lockdown at a Tucson junior high school that was sparked Friday by a threatening note that was found in front of the nurse's office.

Sheriff's spokesman Tom Peine (Py-NAH) says a search was done at Flowing Wells Junior High School and no weapons were found. The lockdown was lifted at about 2:45 p.m. and students were allowed to leave at the regularly scheduled dismissal time.

Peine says the note implied the possible use of weapons so authorities decided to lock down the school as a precaution while they searched.

The Pima Regional Bomb Squad, the Arizona Department of Public Safety and a special unit from Davis-Monthan Air Force Base responded.

About 850 students attend the school. Authorities say all students were individually searched for weapons.
