SUPERIOR, Ariz. -- A woman has died after being struck by a truck while trying to cross a state highway in Superior on foot.

The Pinal County Sheriff's Office said 47-year-old Elaine J. Romero, 47, was struck Monday night by a truck that was pulling a carnival trailer on Highway 60.

Investigators said Romero ran or walked out in front of the truck in a part of the roadway that had no intersection or crosswalk.

Witnesses told investigators that Romero was intoxicated.

The sheriff's office said the truck's driver, Matthew Hydock, 29, of Eloy, is believed to have been under the influence of marijuana and pain medication at the time.

Investigators are awaiting results of a blood test for the driver. Charges are pending.
