PHOENIX — The United States Marines marked the branch’s 237th anniversary at the Arizona State Capitol on Friday.
Major Mike Ford, Commanding Officer of Marine Recruiting Station Phoenix, said having the event at the Capitol was special.
“It’s great. Gov. Brewer proclaimed this as ‘Marine Corps Month,'” he said. “We asked last year if we could do a traditional Marine cake cutting ceremony, which something we do when we have the time and ability to.”
The youngest and oldest marines at the ceremony were honored. The youngest was 24-years-old. The oldest was a 100-year-old Marine that served as a Navajo Code Talker in World War II.
