PHOENIX -- Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett says there's more than 600,000 early and provisional ballots statewide that have yet to be processed and counted.

Bennett says the uncounted ballot total was 602,334 as of Wednesday.

That includes Maricopa County's 344,000 uncounted early ballots and 115,000 provisional ballots yet to be verified.

State law gives the counties 10 calendar days to verify and process the remaining early and provisional ballots. That gives them until Nov. 16.

A state canvass to certify official election results for federal, statewide and legislative races is scheduled Dec. 3.

Individuals who had insufficient identification when they went to vote at a polling place were allowed to cast a ``conditional provisional'' ballot.

They have until Nov. 13 to return to their county elections office with proper identification.

    gov behind the times
with todays technology it should only take minutes. Our government really needs to bring themselves up to at leave the 80's technology. they are so far behind, take forever to do anything and in most cases dont do a thing but blame each other.

    What's a good reason........
why the early ballots can't be counted soon enough so that their total is available when the polls close? There is a deadline for submitting early ballots, so why not do the logical thing and start counting them at that time? And why are there so many provisional ballots anyway - most of them are unnecessary except as a way to discourage "the kind of voters" not wanted by conservatives.

that's a huge number state wide. I'm not holding my breath but still that's a huge number and considering i voted early I'd at least like to have my vote officially looked at.

    I think it's unprofessional..
I think that the comments that were made on the radio about the hispanics, and Penzone were unprofessional. Penzone should not have to do a retraction...when there are so many uncounted votes still out there. If snide comments absolutely need to be said, I think you should wait until the votes are completely counted first.
