Man arrested in fatal stabbing of wife in Phoenix
PHOENIX -- A man accused in the fatal stabbing of his wife at their Phoenix home now is in custody.
Phoenix police said Thursday that 31-year-old Salvador Garcia-Sanchez was booked into jail after being released from a hospital.
He's being held on suspicion of first-degree murder and kidnapping.
Police say Garcia-Sanchez was out on bond after facing illegal immigration charges at the time of the Oct. 26 stabbing, which was witnessed by five of the woman's children.
They say 41-year-old Maria Gonzalez and her husband had a verbal altercation before Garcia-Sanchez allegedly stabbed her with a knife.
She collapsed outside the couple's home and was taken to a Phoenix hospital, where she was declared dead.
Police say Garcia-Sanchez suffered undisclosed injuries in the altercation and was hospitalized for days in serious condition.
