An incident possibly involving pepper spray forced the evacuation of Mesa High School on Thursday, the Mesa Fire Department said in an email.

The incident was reported about 2:45 p.m. as students were preparing to head home for the day. Authorities believe an unidentified person discharged pepper spray in a first floor hallway.

As a precaution, the fire department's hazardous materials team was brought in to inspect the substance.

Several students were assessed for pepper spray-like symptoms, but none were treated and no one was injured.
