All the hard work put in by Latino Get Out The Vote volunteers was nearly undermined by the Maricopa County Recorder's office.

On two separate incidents, Spanish-language election materials were distributed with the erroneous General Election date of Nov. 8.

"I would prefer for the County Recorder's Office to own their mistake and to do a very aggressive communications campaign to make sure Latino voters understand their rights, understand where the polling locations and know the election date," said Grecia Lima with Promise Arizona in Action.

The County Recorder's Office released this statement:

Concerning the regrettable error on the Spanish-language Voter ID and bookmark: I wish I could say we never made a mistake in this office. But we do. However, the suggestion that this office would be a party to a dark conspiracy to depress voter turnout among any constituency or ethnic group is contrary to the history, the commitment and ideals of this office, my staff and my life's work. It is simply a malicious lie. We have dedicated decades of the highest public service to expand voter participation. A former President once described the vote as the most powerful instrument ever devised by man for breaking down injustice. We agree and our professional careers attest to that high mission.

The office has promised to launch a Spanish language publicity campaign to "make sure everyone knows that the election will be held on Tuesday, November 6. Martes, 6 de Noviembre."

    Good deal! Elections officials get
paid with everone's tax dollars to be competent in their work. Fixing their own mess is the right thing to do.

Where was the help when I was out of work and trying to take care of my family. Oh, your white, male, lower middle class, and near middle age...sorry got nothing for you. The thanks I get for playing by the rules all my life. And I'm to feel sorry for their plight?

You shouldn't be going to the Elections Dept.
looking for welfare handouts, yrreta. Try DES. Meanwhile, Elections is beholden to all registered voters, not just the select.

    English Langauge
is to be spoken in order to get your citizenship. So why are we catering to one group? Why not German, or Italian, French, Scottish maybe Portuguese? The ballot should be English only or bring your own interpreter. How much is this costing us now?

You are way behind the curve, HWAG.
From a Oct. 2011 article: "For the first time, people from India will get election material in their native language, in voting precincts in Los Angeles, Chicago and New York, due to their fast population growth. More American Indian tribal languages will be made available in many parts of Alaska, Arizona and Mississippi, while Vietnamese and Taiwanese will get their own voting assistance in several new areas, including parts of Washington state, Texas, Massachusetts and California. Asian Bangladeshi must be provided for the first time in Hamtramck, Mich, which neighbors Detroit."

    In Guilford County, NC
the voting machines were defaulted to vote for Obama. By Micho's very ideology it is the black man suppressing the white man's vote. It couldn't be a simple calibration issue.

You missed my point, you are always crying about the how the taxpayers dollar is being wasted, and this is yet another preventable waste. I may have been off-topic a bit, but I think that most are sick and tired of the PC, and catering to those who think they are entitled to special treatment just because they came across our border. My Grandparents came to this country through Ellis Island in the early 1900s, they learned the language, became citizens and didn't expect any special treatment. Why is crossing the south border different?
