Phoenix mayor optimistic over efficiency progress
It's not "lean and mean," but the city of Phoenix is still celebrating a more streamlined way of doing business.
"By really kicking the tires on just about everything, we were lucky to be able to find a significant amount of savings," said Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton. "We're still able to provide the same level of service to the people of our city, but do it in a less expensive way."
Stanton said the city has saved $59 million in three years by implementing policies like same-day garbage and recycling pickup and cutting management layers.
Stanton said the city has a goal to save $100 million by 2015.
