Tucson school locked down after suspect flees
TUCSON, Ariz. — Authorities in Tucson have called off their search for a burglary suspect whose flight caused a Tucson school to be placed on lockdown much of the afternoon.
Pima County Sheriff's Deputy Thomas Peine says the incident started when a homeowner returning home surprised an intruder.
The suspect drove off but crashed a vehicle at an intersection just outside city limits and then ran off on foot.
As a result, nearby St. Gregory College Preparatory School was locked down shortly before noon.
Peine says officers searched several hours for the suspect.
