Mesa apartment fire claims life of 1 man

A man has died in an overnight apartment fire in Mesa.
Crews from Mesa and Tempe fire departments responded to the 2 a.m. blaze Wednesday at Country Club Drive and Baseline Road. Multiple tenants called in the fire.
Firefighters broke down a locked back door, and worked their way through smoke and fire. They eventually found the body of the unidentified man near the front door, according to Mesa Fire Captain Forrest Smith.
The fire was contained to two apartments. Eight tenants in the building were evacuated.
