PHOENIX -- New state grants will help pay for extra DUI and speed- enforcement patrols by Maricopa County sheriff's deputies.

The Governor's Office of Highway Safety grants will help pay overtime expenses for deputies working on those patrols. Some of the money also will go to pay overtime costs for underage alcohol enforcement and prevention teams, drug recognition training and detention help.

The sheriff's office announced the $160,000 and $70,000 program grants on Thursday.

    Uninformed KTAR commentators espouse
unAmerican beliefs about Big Government seizure of private property. But ignorance of the law, is no excuse. Supreme Court sez: ". . . it must be concluded that all persons within the territory of the United States are entitled to the protection guaranteed by those amendments, and that even aliens shall not be held to answer for a capital or other infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a grand jury, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law."

Interesting that you quote a case from 1896 (Wong Wing v. United States - 163 U.S. 228 (1896)) that has to do with the treaty in place at that time with China. Could you find something a little more apropos to better educate us uninformed KTAR commentators.

Yretta, you show yourself quite capable
of finding the information that you request on your own. This would assume that the truth of the matter would interest you, which I doubt. You found the Wing v. U.S. decision which tells me you could find Plyer v. Doe and the host of other decisions reaffirming the limited civil rights of illegal immigrants. Give me a break and quit feigning ignorance.
