PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. -- A woman and her 44-year-old son were shot to death in an apartment, and authorities have questioned another son who claims he killed his brother in self-defense.

Prescott Valley police responded to a report of gunshots Thursday at an apartment building. Authorities found Elizabeth Wood, 72, and her son, Edward James Wood, dead inside one of the units, Sgt. Brandon Bonney said Friday.

Another son, Daniel Wood, 28, was initially detained at the scene for questioning but has since been released pending an investigation.

Wood told investigators the three family members were cleaning an apartment in the building owned by his older brother when they had some sort of disagreement, police said.

Wood said his brother left the room and returned with two handguns, then shot and killed his mother, according to police.

He told investigators his brother then came at him, and in a struggle, he shot the man in self-defense.

Authorities said Daniel Wood then called 911.

``While this investigation is ongoing and we have not definitively determined the events that transpired, we want to stress to the public that we are not seeking any other suspects,'' Bonney said in a statement.

Autopsies were planned for later Friday.

    Really?
You had to shoot your mother AND brother? I suppose exit was not an option? I don't envy this guy as he will have to live with the worst possible guilt for the rest of his life. If he had kids, good thing they weren't there.
