PHOENIX -- Zip lines, giant bugs and racing pigs are among the attractions on tap as the Arizona State Fair kicks off its yearly run in Phoenix.

The fair opens its 18-day run on Friday at the state fairgrounds at 19th Avenue and McDowell Road just north of downtown Phoenix.

New attractions touted by fair promoters include a street drum corps, wine competition and tasting and chain saw carving demonstrations.

Nightly entertainment includes an Oct. 19 performance by John Fogerty and an Oct. 24 concert by Jane's Addiction.

The fair runs from Friday through Nov. 4 and is closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Adult admission is $10 and children and seniors pay $5. Gates open at noon weekdays and 10 a.m. on weekends.
