SALT LAKE CITY -- Gov. Gary Herbert is ordering flags in Utah be flown at half-staff in honor of Utah native and slain Border Patrol Agent Nicholas Ivie.

Herbert is calling for lowered flags from sunrise to sunset on Thursday, which is the same day as Ivie's memorial service at Utah Valley University in Orem.

Ivie was shot to death Oct. 2 near the Mexican border as three agents responded to an alarm that was triggered by a sensor aimed at detecting smugglers. A second agent was wounded.

The FBI said it appears the agents opened fire on each other in a case of friendly fire.

In addition to Thursday's service, a funeral for Ivie was held Monday in Sierra Vista, Ariz.
