GREELEY, Colo. -- A man charged with first-degree murder in the death of a fellow onion field worker in 1997 has been extradited from Arizona to Colorado.

The Greeley Tribune reports Consuelo Zavala is being held without bond in Weld County and is due in court Thursday for an advisement hearing.

Zavala was arrested in Arizona last month while trying to re-enter the U.S. He was arrested after a records check showed he was wanted on a homicide warrant.

He is accused in the fatal shooting of Francisco Gasca on Aug. 25, 1997. Several witnesses told police the shooting was a carryover from another fight, according to case information.

Zavala's father, Antonio Caudillo-Zavala, was prosecuted for being an accessory to the crime and received a three-year prison sentence.
