TOMBSTONE, Ariz. — The Cochise County Sheriff's Office says it is investigating the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old boy by a deputy city marshal in Tombstone.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Carol Capas says a Tombstone Marshal's Office deputy went to a home at about 3:45 a.m. Saturday after the resident called to report someone was trying to break in.

The deputy went inside the home and found the teen armed with a handgun. He then fatally shot him.

The boy's name hasn't been released but he is a Tombstone resident and his family has been notified.

The sheriff's office and a Sierra Vista Police team are investigating.

Capas says the teen who was killed was the apparent intruder and the home's resident wasn't hurt.
