Kingman rejects ban on smoking in all parks
KINGMAN, Ariz. -- The Kingman City Council has decided against banning cigarette smoking in all municipal parks, instead opting to continue a pilot program aimed at creating smoke-free zones in areas where people gather.
The Kingman Youth Coalition Beating Up Teen Tobacco had sought for an outright smoking ban in all parks, arguing second-hand smoke can harm non-smoking park users and that cigarette butts were creating litter.
The Kingman Daily Miner reports the City Council chose this week to stick with the smoke-free zones in areas such as playgrounds and bleachers where people gather and to continue with education and enforcement efforts.
