Phoenix man gets life for camping-trip molestation
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- A Phoenix-area man convicted of molesting a young boy on a fishing trip to the Flagstaff area has been sentenced to life in prison.
The conviction of Stephen James Bruni, 46, on one count of sexual conduct with a minor under the age of 12 came after two mistrials.
The Arizona Daily Sun reported the life term handed down Wednesday was mandatory. Bruni can be paroled after 35 years.
Bruni and the boy shared a tent during a July 2008 camping trip when the molestation occurred.
Coconino County Sheriff's Offices detectives taped a phone conversation with Bruni and the boy's father where he admitted sexual activity with the boy. Bruni maintained he only made the admission because the father had threatened to assault him.
