KINGMAN, Ariz. -- A Mohave County man who pleaded with a judge to give him a chance to attend a rehab program instead got a 12-year prison sentence.

Donald Glen Branson was arrested last year after a 70-year-old neighbor caught him burglarizing a Golden Valley home and called deputies.

The 31-year-old had five prior felony convictions when a jury convicted him of the burglary in August.

The Kingman Daily Miner reported Wednesday that Branson sent a letter to Judge Derek Carlisle saying he's never been offered a chance at rehabilitation in a live-in home or similar program. Carlisle rejected the request and instead gave him the 12-year term because he had so many prior convictions.

    FIVE Felony Convictions?
What happened to the THREE strike law? Good for Judge Derek Carlisle. Mohave County is a safer place with this guy locked up for 12 years - He can attend residential re-hab while residing in prison. My guess is that he will choose not to.

    Good For this Judge
It's about time a judge throws the book at a career criminal. I just hope Maricopa Judges take notice with multi convicted drunk drivers too.
