A small group of applicants for the newly-implemented Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program formally invited on Wednesday two state leaders to a speak-out event.

The group gathered in front of the executive tower and made their way peacefully to Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer's office. The governor is out of state, however a member of her staff took the invitation and assured the group that Brewer would be made aware of the event.

John Halikowski, Director of the Arizona Department of Transportation - Motor Vehicle Division was also invited.

We hope that she can make the event," said Luis Dominguez with LUCHA, Living United for Change in Arizona. "We want her to reconsider the policy that prohibits the DACA applicants from receiving a driver's license."

The speak-out event on Oct. 25 at the state capitol will include speeches from DREAMers and DACA applicants.

According to information provided by LUCHA, "they will speak up about their need for driver's licenses and ask the two public servants to reconsider."

that the executive order to deny drivers licenses to illegal immigrants applying for deferred action didn't change a thing. It was simply a political posturing move and clarification in simple terms to reiterate laws that already exist. The state can never legally issue drivers licenses to anybody that is not a citizen of this country, and also a resident of the state they are applying for. Seeing as they fail that first requirement, they are petitioning in vain.

Constitutionalist appears not to know the
laws of the land. Non citizen, resident aliens are eligible for, and are regularly issued Arizona drivers licenses. The recently granted Deferred Actions are a demonstration of temporary authorized presence, in compliance with Az. license law, Brewer's order not withstanding.

    Current AZ law
Michoacan, I must disagree with your comment about the law regarding how drivers licenses are issued in Arizona. To my understanding from the website http://www.azdot.gov/mvd/DLInfo.asp#ProofOfAge it requires amongst other things a valid social security number to apply for a drivers license. To my understanding, valid social security numbers are only available to citizens of this country. It is true, identity theft and fraud frequently surrond S.S. numbers, but again, to my understanding, You are requried to have a valid S.S. number.

You may recall that in California, shortly after Brewers declaration of not issuing drivers licenses to those applying for differed action, California sought to issue licenses to non-citizens/illegal immigrants, but was ordered by the Federal government not to issue licenses to non-citizens/illegal immigrants. It is true I am shamefully unaware of many of the laws of the land, and hope to understand them better. I am grateful that you prompted me to think about, and learn a little more about the laws of our land.
