listen Listen: Senator John McCain #1
Senator John McCain joins Mac & Gaydos to discuss the shooting of a Border Patrol agent on US-Mexico line.

As the nation mourns the murder of Border Patrol agent Nicholas Ivie, Arizona Sen. John McCain said he would not be surprised if the suspects, whenever they are apprehended, are involved with drug cartels in some way.

"It wouldn't surprise me if this was a bunch of drug people who were transporting drugs," he told News/Talk 92.3 KTAR's Mac & Gaydos on Tuesday.

McCain was very clear in stating that he is not making any assumptions about the suspects, but simply that he would not be stunned to see that they are involved with a cartel, given the area's notoriety for drug activity.

McCain went on to say that he believes it is a federal responsibility to ensure both the integrity of the border and the safety of its agents and citizens that patrol and live in border regions.

"We still have a very serious problem with drug cartels running drugs up through the mountains of Arizona, being guided by people on the mountains of Arizona, up to Phoenix and distribute [drugs] throughout the country," he said.

listen Listen: Senator John McCain #2
Senator John McCain speaks about how the problems on the border are not about politics.

While McCain apologized for the issue being politicized by Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer, he accused former Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano of doing the same.

"I can tell you that our former governor politicizes it by blaming Republicans all the time for a variety of things," he said.

Overall, McCain called the death a time for mourning and said the families of the victims deserve to know the circumstances of what happened.

    Could it be...
This is why the government is stocking up on ammo and other gear? All the conspiracy nuts think it's for some "FEMA camp garbabe" (which is pure garbage and the proof is in nutjob links), but it would make more sense that DHS views the cartels as a major threat and wants to be prepared.

McCain even knows what the heck a cartel is or does. Here's a politician that's out of touch with reality used to being pampered and cares only about the money on the "hill" he has access too!

    Would not surprise me.
We know it was the drug cartel come on now. When was the last time human smugglers used weapons. It is time to place snipers on the border, as soon as they verify that someone crossed the border armed put a 50 cal. round through their chest. This is an ARMED INVASION period!

Despite that we are told that the border is secure and enforcement is strong, Obama is entirely aware that the border is not secure. He wants it that way.

    couple of things
    1. The boarder is MORE secure, not secure. Huge difference. 2. F&F didn't bring ALL guns, turst out cartels had guns BEFORE F&F, not that it helped but at least be honest about the problem. 3. If i were a gambling man i'm betting it was a drug runner. 4. We can't just outright shoot people on the boarder, that's murder. 5. Obama has deported more people than...anyone. Vote for results.

Reality would tell you Gilbert that activity is on the rise at the border, this includes agent assaults so the border isn't more secure. If it was then they should take down all those signs that tell Americans that it's dangerous to be in our own Country close to the border. Two, Obama's deportation numbers have been debunked...it's a myth, made up, fabricated. Sadly, you and many others are easily fooled.
