After orders from Police Chief Daniel Garcia, all officers will be wearing a formal dark blue uniform starting Oct. 1.

The uniform is said to be heavier and hotter unlike the black uniform they used to wear.

Crane said the union has filed an unfair labor practice complaint.

"We as a stakeholder should have been involved on the front end of this instead of the chief just unilaterally deciding to eliminate it and then telling us after the fact," said Ken Crane with the Phoenix Law Enforcement Association.

Crane said that the officers are professionals and taking the change in stride today even though many disagree with the decision.

    KTAR Please correct
These uniforms are not new. Police officers have several different uniforms and the Chief of Police has decided they must wear formal dark uniforms.

    About Time
I wish Glendale would do the same thing minus K-9. It is about time they started looking like a Police Department again instead of a para-military force. Most never ironed the things and they looked like Crap. I understand the heat and all but someone could come up with a summer uniform. Maybe add a White shirt etc.

Needs To Look At Tax Laws
Last week the president of the union said something about their uniform allowance after tax's. The last I looked and remember Under the Federal and State Tax codes if it is an allowance i.e. uniform allowance there is no tax on it and to top it off if it is something you can not wear under normal civilian cloths type thing that is also a tax write off.

    Senseless taxpayer expense
The Chiefs mandate is going to cost the city alot of money. The City of Phoenix has offered to reimburse officers for uniform expenses and is now facing an unfair labor practice lawsuit, which they will lose. The cost to taxpayers could easily be six figures or more. Chief "Attilla" needs to rescind this mandate immediately. So much for "Policing with a Purpose".
