DPS recovers $300K of copper plates in Marana
TUCSON, Ariz. -- Dozens of copper plates stolen from the Asarco plant in Hayden have been recovered at a home in Marana.
The Arizona Daily Star reported that Arizona Department of Public Safety officers who had begun investigating the theft Thursday had made a traffic stop of a commercial vehicle that day on Interstate 10 in Casa Grande.
Authorities said officers found 48 plates in the vehicle's trailer.
Each plate weighs about 880 pounds.
A subsequent search of a search of a home led to the recovery of another 54 plates.
The approximate value of the plates was more than $300,000.
