BENSON, Ariz. — A man from a rural area north of Benson has died after his tractor plunged about 100 feet into a ravine.

Cochise County Sheriff's spokeswoman Carol Capas says the 83-year-old man's daughter called deputies at mid-afternoon Saturday and said she could not contact her father. The woman had spoken with him on a hand-held radio at about noon and he told her he was on his tractor on a road outside the community of Cascabel.

A county Search and Rescue crew was sent to the area along with a state police helicopter.

Capas says the helicopter crew spotted the tractor in a ravine. Ground searchers climbed down to the tractor and found the man dead.

His name wasn't immediately released Sunday.
