Arizona Sen. John McCain has been named the most powerful Republican when it comes to foreign policy.
According to Foreign Policy, McCain, the ranking member of the Armed Services Committee, is both a powerful voice for foreign policy and a mentor to up-and-coming Republicans.
“The time has come for a new policy,” McCain said in March 2012. “The United States should lead an international effort to protect key population centers in Syria, especially in the north, through airstrikes on Assad’s forces.”
McCain, a longtime booster of the war efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan, has spoken out against the reduction of forces and is a leader in Pentagon oversight.
Sen. Jon Kyl also made the list at number 40 because of his criticism of arms control and intelligence leaks.
