NOGALES, Ariz. - A Mexican man has been arrested for allegedly attempting to smuggle $280,000 in unreported U.S. currency out of Arizona and into Mexico.

Customs and Border Protection officers at the Dennis DeConcini Port of Entry referred 29-year-old Francisco Madero Mazon for a secondary inspection of his vehicle Monday night.

They reported finding 14 packages of unreported currency hidden in the front bumper. The vehicle and cash were processed for seizure.

The case was turned over to the Nogales Police Department for prosecution. Authorities didn't know Tuesday whether Mazon has a lawyer yet for his case.
