PHOENIX — Authorities have released the name of a 38-year-old man who was killed when he was swept away by flood waters in Lake Havasu City.

Police Sgt. Joe Harrold says the death occurred Friday night as heavy rain and flooding hit parts of the city.

He says Kenneth Mathis and two others were in a vehicle when it was caught in a rush of water. It tumbled several times. The two freed themselves and made it to safety, but Mathis disappeared.

His body was later found about 2 miles downstream.

Harrold says the city's emergency dispatch center received more than 100 storm-related calls in about four hours. Most of the flooding subsided by late Friday.

The National Weather Service says storms produced at least two inches of rain in parts of Yuma County, and parts of the Phoenix area were under a flash flood watch.
