TUCSON, Ariz. — The Pima County Sheriff's Department is investigating the apparent suicide of inmate who was found dead in his cell.

Deputy Tom Peine says 26-year-old Jonathon Niles Kesterson was found unresponsive Saturday morning. He had a bed sheet tied around his neck.

Kesterson was being held on a charge of first-degree murder.

The charge stemmed from an investigation of the death of his infant daughter. The child's body was found buried in the desert near Eloy on April 14.

Peine says an autopsy of Kesterson is pending.
