PHOENIX — Police agencies across Arizona are launching patrols to seek out drunken drivers during the July 4 holiday.

Governor's Office of Highway Safety director Alberto Gutier says about 50 police agencies in the state will take part in the special patrols.

The patrols will run from Tuesday night through Saturday.

The Scottsdale, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert and Tempe police departments kicked off the patrols on Tuesday night.

The areas that police will focus on include the eastern suburbs in metro Phoenix and the highway leading to Lake Pleasant.
