DOUGLAS, Ariz. - An Arizona Department of Corrections officer has been arrested for allegedly transporting marijuana through the Douglas Port of Entry.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials say 28-year-old Ramon Cruz was applying for entry Monday when an officer noticed his DOC uniform with attached badge lying in the back seat of his pickup truck.

During primary inspection, the CBP officer asked Cruz to open the center console. When Cruz did so, the CBP officer says he saw a brick-shaped package and referred Cruz for a secondary inspection.

Officers removed 19 packages of marijuana with a combined weight of more than 21 pounds and an estimated value of more than $10,000.

CBP says Cruz was arrested and his uniform and badge were turned over to a criminal investigator from the Corrections Department.
