Rob’s 5 On It: Days you really don’t care about work

Mar 21, 2014, 12:47 AM | Updated: 12:47 am

The NCAA tournament has started and there are estimates that productivity will dip by over a billion dollars because too many workers are streaming games online to watch Harvard beat Cincinnati or taking extended lunches to catch the end of Dayton versus Ohio State (bracket-busters, anyone?).

So here are some other days when most people really don’t want to be at work. Don’t pretend you’re working on a spreadsheet. We all know.

1) The day before Thanksgiving

Admit it. You’re not thinking about your TPS report the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. You are thinking about turkey and gravy and mashed potatoes and blueberry pie. You might be thinking about that last-minute trip to the store you have to make to pick up any last-minute items so there’s no chance you want to spend eight hours in the office. For most full-time workers, this is the only time in the year the company gives you two paid days off in a row. While you spend Wednesday at work, you want your vacation to start already.

My best guess: productivity is 25 percent.

2) Friday before Memorial Day
